OT-BS-L 179
Business English for apprentices 1

Zielgruppe

Apprentices in the federal administration and in outsourced federal institutions who are in their first year of apprenticeship

Inhalt und Ziele

In 90-minute online sessions, participants learn office email etiquette and effective email communication: clarifying misunderstandings, making requests, setting deadlines and asking for extensions, providing information and apologising. Office telephone etiquette: clarifying, requesting and providing information. Job descriptions: being able to describe duties, responsibilities and challenges. Review of relevant syntax, grammar and vocabulary. Tailored listening and reading exercises and interactive group activities.

  • Gain confidence in communicating succinctly and effectively with colleagues, superiors and third parties in writing, during meetings and over the phone.
  • Improve listening and pronunciation skills and acquire vocabulary and phrases used in business and professional contexts. Learn to recognise and avoid common mistakes in order to minimise misunderstandings and demonstrate the required level of professionalism.

Lernmethode

Students' initial level will be assessed and materials will be tailored accordingly.

Students will work in small groups (breakout rooms online) and individually to improve their existing level of English and build new skills essential in a professional office environment.

Individual feedback on grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary is provided to ensure tangible improvement.

Authentic listening and reading materials provide models of contemporary business language.

The level of difficulty of the exercises is adjusted according to the progress of the group, with a constant emphasis on increasing the fluidity and spontaneity of communication and the complexity of topics that students can discuss with ease.
